Förvar utan återvändo

En lång rad migranter som tagits i förvar för utvisning som aldrig kan verkställas, har intervjuats inom ett projekt som nu avslutas med rapporten "Point of No Return: The Futile Detention of Unreturnable Migrants". Tjugo av dem berättar sina egna historier på en webbsida. Projektet har genomförts i samarbete mellan frivilligorganisationer i flera EU-länder.

Från pressmeddelande om rapporten:

"The project 'A face to the story: the issue of unreturnable migrants in detention' raises awareness among civil society regarding unreturnable migrants and urges policy-makers at national and EU level to put an end to their detention and find solutions for them.

Unreturnable migrants cannot go back to their country of origin for reasons beyond their control. At the same time, they cannot obtain a residence permit in the country where they live. Without documents or status, they can be detained for a forced return that cannot be carried out.

A Face to the Story is the result of the cooperation between Flemish Refugee Action (Belgium), Detention Action (UK), France Terre d'Asile (France), Menedék - Hungarian Association for Migrants (Hungary) and The European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE), with the support of EPIM, the European Programme on Integration and Migration.

The project involves qualitative research based on the experiences of 39 unreturn?able migrants who have been detained in Belgium, France, Hungary and the United Kingdom. On this website you can read the experience of 20 unreturnable migrants who have been detained. Moreover, the result of the research is published in the report 'Point of No Return: The Futile Detention of Unreturnable Migrants'. The project runs from September 2012 to February 2014."
